Making accessible travel easier to book

Zappawoo is probably the most exciting start up you have seen in years....

Very simply, Zappawoo is aiming to achieve in the accessible travel market what lastminute.com has done in the mainstream travel market - revolutionise choice, ease of booking and last minute offers for a rapidly growing market segment that has so far not been served by the travel industry.

Broken leg? Wobbly walker? (a term coined by our Board member Simon Weston!) Partially sighted? Hard of hearing? People with access requirements find that booking a holiday that suits their needs - an accessible holiday - can be a complex and frustrating business.

Zappawoo is a booking platform that will bring together thousands of holiday and leisure options from both mainstream and specialist providers, each one with detailed information about its access.

For the first time those with mobility, hearing and visual impairments (and those who just simply need some additional reassurance) will be able to easily search and book product and take advantage of time limited offers.

The demand for accessible travel and leisure is increasing year on year as our population ages. There are 15 million aged over 60 in the UK, many of whom have the desire and money to travel (the Grey Pound). In addition there are 12 million people with a disability in the UK, all with varying mobility, hearing and visual needs, and who spend billions a year on travel (the Purple Pound).

Please see more about the Zappawoo start up team including John McEwan, Chairman.

We already have many suppliers interested. Funding is now required for technical development and an aggressive roll-out.

Our Launch Plans

We are seeking to raise capital in exchange for equity to fund the technical development and the UK rollout planned for mid 2017.

The Market

The market opportunity

There are millions of people in the UK getting on with their lives while managing some sort of hearing, mobility or sight impairment. Their numbers, and what they spend, are growing as our population ages.

Those aged 60 or over in the UK are expected to pass the 20 million mark by 2030. This market, whose purchasing power of referred to as the Grey Pound, is growing fast and with clients that are affluent, often travel out of season and are keen for new experiences.

And impairments affect those of every age. There are 12 million people in the UK with a long term health problem or disability. During 2014 they and their families and friends spent £12.1bn on overnight and day trips in England alone.

The business opportunity

It can be difficult for someone with an impairment to find accessible travel and leisure products. The equivalent to Secret Escapes or lastminute.com with specialised accessible product just does not exist.

And although the international travel industry is increasingly offering accessible products it does not have a sales platform to reach this potentially huge market.

This is where Zappawoo comes in.... the specialist online bridge between supply and demand in this marketplace.

We will position ourselves as a mainstream travel provider, with a large range of accessible product, including hotels, package holidays, tailormade holidays, safaris, cruises and activity holidays such as sailing and scuba diving. Each entry will provide detailed information about its access which can be searched for by key words on our highly navigable website. Thecustomer, at last, will have choice and all the information they and their families and friends need to make an informed booking.

Our strapline is: Your life - No limits.
